Chapter 9 – Page 44
This was a page we talked about for a very long time. I hope all of you enjoy it, and it’s…important to us.
This has been an interesting week. The comic will, of course, continue on as it has, but I wanted to shoutout to my amazing co-writer, Gareth. He is one of my best friends and I love him dearly and, right now, he is having a new adventure of his own. A new chapter, I think? We will continue to work on this project, regardless of our distance but, I suppose, I just want people to know that it’s because of him that this project exists.
Years ago, Gareth and I had an idea. We wanted to tell a story, a story that was of love and that reached out to the lgbtqia+ community, something that could be tender and adventurous and beautiful and fantastic – and we wanted a fairytale. Fairytales can be close to your heart, they can reach alot of people, and they have the potential to be timeless. I’m not saying that’s what this is, but…perhaps whether it is or not isn’t the point. We wanted to tell a story and test our story-telling abilities and we wanted to have fun! And we have! So, here we are.
This was all just alot of rambling, but know we’ll continue to work on this project. We all appreciate all of your support and, to Gareth, this project is because of you. You’re an inspiration and you’re the best friend I could ask for. Love you lots. <3
This gets me. You’ve created something great and a story that’s really touching, and which I have enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy) reading. I can tell these words are heartfelt and that this page is heartfelt, too, and it’s my favorite one so far for a lot of reasons. Not just because this is the culmination of a lot of storytelling and a lot of character development, but because this is just what I think you’re trying to say: The heart of a fairytale. This was the enchanted prince story I wish I’d had, growing up, and it genuinely touches me now. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support, Morgan. We’re really glad that you’re enjoying the story so far. I really wanted something like this growing up too and thought that there’s probably some people out there who did as well. Hopefully children right now would enjoy this too.
So beautiful.
Probably Odet and Sieg won’t start a relationship right now… but I bet the taned prince will sleep much better now he knows the cursed prince he was feeling so close to isn’t the monster king of the legend.
Nice to get some insight into Odet and what he’s been going through. While I’m waiting for them to become a couple, but Odet finding a friend after all this time is just as important. Love this scene. 🙂 So glad you can keep creating this comic and telling their story!
Awwwww Hun! Thank you very much for your touching words. This means so much to me. And thanks for telling our readers why we created this comic to beginning. It’s really important to me to do something for the LGBTQ+ committee and for the children and their parents who want content that focuses less on romance and more on their characters.
I’m going to miss you so much and our page planning meetings. You mean so much to me. Thank you for always being there for me and for being my best friend. Love you so much. <3 I will always be here for you.
This is a beautiful fairy tale and it definitely is a very slow progressing but kindly done romantic story. I look forward to seeing more of this story and best wishes for your co-writer. Hopefully in the future stories like yours can be animated for teens, young adults and adults that are desperately ‘crying’ for lgbtq+ stories like yours to be animated. But I guess only the future will show us what will change in the western animation industry.
Beautiful page. I just love how he suddenly hugs him! They are so adorable. You can just see how happy and relieved he is that the swan prince is not the bad guy in this story and that he hadn’t misjudged him but also how deeply he sorry that he had to open up these wounds and make the swan prince relive this pain again. Also how much he wants to comfort and soothe and take all of that pain away. He can’t go back in time and fix things but he wishes he could. He wishes he could have been there to aid and protect him. He wishes he could take away all that grief he’s been carrying all these years. This is one of my favorite pages of the story. I love the expressions in his eyes and how they change and how your art conveys their feelings so well. This would make a beautiful animated film.
You know anime is really going through a big resurgence right now and being shown both as anime in theatres but also live action versions of anime shows being shown in theatres. This month alone one local theatre had 6 showing of different anime films and one Christian based animated film ANC they have the studio ghibli anime series going as well superset from their regular blockbusters films shown. The other local theatre who has a different mix of studio ghibli films showed 4 different anime films on top of the studio ghibli ones and they showed a concert band that does the music for an anime with shots from the anime incorporated. A lot of these types of films are run thru fathom entertainment, cinema arts, GDKids. You can see listings for theatres on their sites but also many show up on crunchy roll. The BL webcomic Something Like Summer has books and also has a live movie version coming out so they might have info on taking a webcomic to film and distribution. The person who did the Christian based animated movie might as well. They are actually musicians I think and had done children’s music videos before. Now with films doing digital films it’s much easier to get nontraditional films shown for one to three days showings (which all of those I mentioned above were. You could get Full Sail academy or one of many colleges to do the animated version as a student project but also many high schools now have academy classes with full movie production, commercial and video state if the art studios who are looking for projects for the kids, many do animated (even our local 2 year college has animation, graphic design and digital art and they have students there who want to do animation, web comics, manga, Disney type anime or cartoon art). You could even go animix which is simpler and quicker than anime with this story keeping the art almost exactly as it is. Of course once it as made you could also just create copies and sell the CDs online on your site or thru amazon or through iTunes so it could be uploaded digitally. Just a thought. There is a huge audience for animated films but as I mentioned its in a resurgence now and with movies accepting digital formats it’s a much easier time to get something like this to the big screen. Now would be the time to do this. Self publishing has also never been bigger or more accessible than now thru kindle and amazon but with legislative changes impacted content control five years from now that also will probably be less accessible and feasible.
you’ve do an amazing job
